Ugandan men support women’s fight for equality
Pulling together to further women’s rights
As women around the world #pressforprogress and fight for gender equality, men in a position of power are being applauded for standing up for change in Uganda where 20 women were raped and murdered in 2007.
The policemen — some with babies on their back and cargo on their head — paraded down a street peacefully protesting violence against women. “We want to put ourselves in the shoes of women," Ogweng, an assistant superintendent in the Uganda Police Force, told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. “Is it difficult to carry water? Is it difficult to carry a baby?” [news.trust.org]
Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) has been supporting women and girls around the world for more than 60 years. We offer skills-training so women learn a trade such as hairdressing, tailoring, farming and more. Many start their own businesses, help support their families and build the confidence to become community leaders, providing a future where their children can chase their dreams.
