Millions of babies aren’t reaching their one-month birthday
A new report sheds light on our most vulnerable members of society. How is CCFC helping?
More than 2.5-million babies die annually before their one-month birthday, reports UNICEF in its new Every Child Alive report.
Many of these tragedies are preventable. “More than 80 percent of newborn deaths are the result of premature birth, complications during labour and delivery and infections such as sepsis, meningitis and pneumonia,” reads the report.
In short, many babies die due to inadequate access to quality healthcare.
In Ethiopia, the report notes a mortality rate of 27.6 per 1,000 live births. Christian Children’s Fund of Canada, along with its partners, supporters and community members are working to provide healthcare and nutrition to new mothers and their babies in Ethiopia to keep them healthy.
