UN campaign launches on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
NEW YORK — As the world marks International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, the United Nations (UN) is launching “Orange the World: raise money to end violence against women,” a campaign addressing their stat that says one in three women will experience gender-based violence in their lifetime.
“Violence against women and girls is a human rights violation, public-health pandemic and serious obstacle to sustainable development,” explains Ban Ki-moon, secretary general, UN. “It imposes large-scale costs on families, communities and economies. The world cannot afford to pay this price.”
The public is encouraged to wear orange in support of the cause and post photos online using the hashtag #OrangeTheWorld. To learn more, watch the video below.
