Thousands delight in launch of educational career
Children gather in Chitoor, India to mark a new chapter in their life

CHITOOR, India — Thousands of little ones gathered in the Mogili village of Chitoor, India to perform aksharabhayasam — a ritual practised when a child launches their educational journey.
Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC), along with its local partner, ROPES, joined with village dignitaries to encourage the children in their quest as the school year kicked off this month.
As is part of the custom — meant to encourage learning — the children wrote the alphabet on the floor using rice. Meanwhile, gifts of stationery and water filters, provided by CCFC, made the day even more special.
CCFC has been making a difference in children’s lives in India for more than 40 years. To find out more about how you can boost a child’s learning potential, check out our Gifts for Good catalogue.
