Inching forward on sustainable development goals
UN Forum assesses progress on 17 global goals for change
NEW YORK — Last September, the United Nations ratified 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved within the next 15 years. Now, dignitaries are assessing how these goals — which address everything from poverty to hunger and clean water — are being put into action at the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, which continues this week in New York.
“The session will include voluntary reviews of 22 countries and thematic reviews of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, including cross-cutting issues,” reads a description about the event.
What’s more, the United Nations has released its first progress report on the SDGs just in time for the forum. It shows data on member states related to the goals and their targets.
Christian Children’s Fund of Canada is working with its ChildFund Alliance partners to address the SDGs. To learn more about how we’re keeping children safe from harmful situations such as early, forced marriage, visit freefromviolence.org.
