Speaking out against child marriage
UNICEF’s David Morley says these unions harm children’s futures
It’s estimated 280-million girls under the age of 18 will be married in the next 30 years, writes David Morley, president and CEO of UNICEF, in a Huffington Post report.
Morley believes we’re “betraying” children’s futures when we allow them to marry young, preventing them from reaching their full potential. “When we invest in their rights, we enable children to grow into the people that will change our world for the better,” he affirms. [huffingtonpost.ca]
This week, the U.K.-based non-governmental agency, Girls Not Brides, is launching a video called, We are #GirlsNotBrides: the anthem to end child marriage. Watch for it later this week in our Video-of-the-Week blog, and spread the word by sharing with your networks.
