An ESL teacher reflects on her experience growing up as an Eritrean immigrant
Born in Sudan to Eritrean refugees, Rishan Habte shares her experience growing up in Columbus, Ohio where she struggled with her cultural identity, an experience she writes about in a special Guardian story.
“When my family moved from Eritrea to Ohio, the misconceptions my classmates had of me left me in tears,” wrote Habte, troubled with the disconnect.
Habte soon learned how all three countries shaped her into the person she is today. By embracing her diverse background and experiences, she now teaches ESL classes, helping those who share similar stories. [theguardian.com].
