Children feel effects of Ethiopia drought
How more than six-million children are affected
METAHARA DISTRICT, Ethiopia — The drought in Ethiopia has been making news for weeks, and now Voice of America writes about the affect it’s having on children.
According to the report, some six-million children are vulnerable to disease, hunger and thirst, and UNICEF estimates 435,000 are at risk of acute malnutrition.
The risk is clear to see. “We have nothing at home. We have nothing to feed our children. We don’t have drinking water," said Alko Bultum, a mother of six.
Christian Children’s Fund of Canada is working with the Ethiopian government to distribute essential food to families in need and to support community schools to ensure minimal disruptions during the crisis.
