Bringing water to a community
Kougri, Burkina Faso benefits from the construction of a borehole and pump
KOUGRI, Burkina Faso — Access to clean water is a basic human right, one that just became possible in Kougri, Burkina Faso.
Thanks to support from Community Rise donors, a borehole and manual pump were installed close to Kougri, benefiting more than 350 people, including 190 children. Now the community has access to clean water, and women and girls don’t have to travel far, to unsafe areas, for a water source.
“I’m glad to see this achievement. Before, the construction of this borehole, I used to walk a long distance and passed more time at a water point to fetch water. But now, the water point is close to my house; my suffering is in the past,” says Aminata, a community member and mother of five.
Now that the community has access to clean water, the risk of waterborne diseases, caused by the dirty water the community used to drink, has evaporated.
