CCFC’s CEO meets Ethiopian President
Mark Lukowski and Dr. Mulatu Teshome discuss collaborative development efforts
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — As Markham, Ont.-based Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) approaches its 30th year working in Ethiopia, CEO Mark Lukowski met Dr. Mulatu Teshome, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, to solidify their joint commitment to helping children and families in the country.
The President thanked CCFC for its contribution to improving maternal and child health, education and overall poverty reduction. “I was delighted he acknowledged and appreciated CCFC’s contributions,” said Lukowski of the visit with the head of state. “It helps that we can harness the power of 12 organizations focused on helping children reach their full potential through our membership with ChildFund Alliance, which operates in 58 countries.”
In the past year in Ethiopia, CCFC has built more than 45 education facilities, trained 1,700 teachers in improved teaching methodologies and provided nearly 1,000 children with vocational youth-training, making it possible for them to become employed or start a small business. CCFC is also helping in areas affected by drought by supporting children and families with educational materials and school-feeding initiatives.
