As Christians commemorate the upcoming birth of Christ, and subsequently the current year comes to a close, I am delighted in the finish lines we crossed at Christian Children’s Fund of Canada in the past 12 months. Here are just a few:
- In Ethiopia, thanks to the support of the Government of Canada and individual donors, we completed a three-year project to improve maternal and child health. We supported more than 120,000 women, newborns and children who were cared at more than 70 health-care facilities.
- Through the generosity of our donors, CCFC provided emergency relief to disasters in Vanuatu (cyclone), Nepal (earthquake), Burkina Faso (severe flooding) and Syria (refugee crisis).
- Three years of advocacy with our ChildFund Alliance partner organizations and other NGOs paid off when a mandate to protect children from violence and exploitation was enshrined in the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, 2015-2030. It was agreed children everywhere have the right to be protected from all forms of harm, such as child labour and early marriage. Our work has just begun; we are starting to define more programs we can implement to reduce violence and exploitation of children.
The list goes on and so does the work in our six countries of operation — Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Nicaragua and Paraguay. And, this Christmas you can send something special to those in need through our Gifts of Joy catalogue of 35 locally sourced gifts, including everything from chickens to medical supplies.
I can’t thank you enough for your support. May blessings, good health and joy fill your home as you celebrate the season and prepare for the year ahead. God bless.
