Every once in a while opportunities, which are really positive additions to our lives, come along. Sponsoring a child and becoming an ambassador for Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) has been one such opportunity for me.
I have been working in the media for years, on the radio and on television. From my early years working as a radio DJ in communities like New Liskeard, Leamington, Kitchener and Hamilton, Ont. through my TV career at CFPL in London, CTV Toronto and CTS Burlington, I have enjoyed exciting experiences. I have met celebrities, been on the air during some of the biggest news moments of our time and travelled to exciting destinations — from Washington State to Ottawa, the Bahamas and Israel. There hasn’t been a dull moment.
Currently I work at SiriusXM radio on a daily talk show called What She Said on channel 167 Canada Talks; I co-host the show with my friends Christine Bentley and Kate Wheeler.
In addition to my professional life, I have a full and busy life as the mother of two daughters. I have been blessed with healthy, happy children and have watched them grow up to become lovely young ladies who are now tackling post-secondary education and working toward their futures. I have always impressed upon my girls how imperative it is that we help make our world a better place. Now, I will be sharing my CCFC experiences with them. It’s important for them to understand the impact child sponsorship can make. They are learning that first-hand through my sponsorship of Liz in Paraguay.
Plus, as we approach the Christmas season, I will be teaching them about the Gifts of Joy catalogue and how our gift-giving dollars spent on something like a blanket, a soccer ball, a goat, a mosquito net or a well can impact not just an individual, but a family or even a village.
My hope is my daughters, my friends and radio listeners will be inspired by my association with CCFC and that they will want to be a part of the circle of love and giving, too. Together, we can work together to make our world a better, stronger and more loving place.
