Nicaraguan children head back to the classroom with a special gift from Christian Children’s Fund of Canada

By Enmanuel Castro, communications manager, Nicaragua

MASAYA, Nicaragua — Malala Yousafzai, the famous Pakistani activist, once said: “One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” Education is indeed power, so Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) did its part to support education as Nicaraguan children returned to school this week.

In Masaya, approximately 20 kilometres from Nicaragua’s capital, 300 children welcomed their new school year with kits distributed by CCFC as coordinated with Nicaragua’s Ministry of Education. The students were excited to receive backpacks, notebooks, pencils, erasers and more.

The 12,000 kits support families who struggle to afford the added costs associated with school. “[It’s] is a blessing,” confirms Ena del Socorro Mena, whose son received a kit. “The economic situation with two children is hard, and this is a great support.”

CCFC, along with its local partners, distributed kits in four cities: Managua, Masaya, Estelí and Somoto. It’s all part of our goal to support education and provide safe places so children can reach their full potential.
