Family Reading Time project named winner in CCFC-DUCA 2016 Innovation Fund Contest
TORONTO (January 5, 2016) — After four weeks of competitive bidding, and thousands of online votes, a winning project has been named in Christian Children’s Fund of Canada’s (CCFC) 2016 Innovation Fund Contest. Family Reading Time, a project to be implemented by CCFC in Paraguay, will receive $25,000 from DUCA Financial Services Credit Union Ltd. (DUCA) to support early childhood education. The initiative garnered 61 percent of votes, beating out three project ideas from Nicaragua, Ethiopia and India.
Project innovators expect to improve literacy in Paraguay by encouraging parents to break from cultural norms and read with their children. Family Reading Time will also increase access to books and other literacy materials.
“It is an honour to be selected as DUCA’s 2016 Innovation Fund recipient,” said Jorge Mendez, country director for CCFC Paraguay. "With this $25,000 investment, we can make significant and long-lasting changes for the children who need it most. We are grateful to everyone who trusted in our project and voted for it.”
