Our Program Sectors

Explore the program sectors below for a better understanding of how donations received by Christian Children’s Fund of Canada supporters are changing the lives of children today, tomorrow, and forever.

All of our program sectors have two goals, in addition to the successful completion of defined projects within each program sector:

  1. Meet some of the immediate needs of the children and their community.
  2. Build stronger and more resilient communities by providing resources (knowledge, skills, and access) so they can meet their own development needs long after Christian Children’s Fund of Canada is gone.

These goals are achieved by working through local partners who, being from the country, are experts in the unique cultures, customs, and needs of the communities where we work. Our partners are carefully selected for their integrity, achievements, and genuine compassion for children. Our partners also work strategically and in close collaboration with the local, regional and national government, wherever possible. This helps to ensure sustainability of our interventions. We monitor all of our program activities and projects very carefully to ensure that the lives of children, their families, and communities are indeed improving with how we spend your money.

Sustainable Livelihood Development

Some parts of India, Africa, and South America are crowded with ramshackle homes with corrugated metal roofs, open sewers of human waste, and children sleeping in the dirt. But if you look closer, you'll see past the poverty and hopelessness. You'll see what we see—potential.

When given the chance, parents work hard to earn a living, to better their community, and to provide for their children. But they need a chance. Small loans and basic skills training give parents, caretakers, and community members the chance to earn a decent income and provide better for their children.

What We Do

Handouts don’t last forever, and they really aren’t a long-term solution for improving the lives of children. With the help of our supporters, Christian Children's Fund of Canada invests in projects that create long-term solutions, and communities can break the cycle of poverty and replace it with a cycle of self-reliance. Because the challenges that each community faces are different, the solutions for each are unique, too. Here, our work can include:

  • Providing job and skills training, and vocational training programs for adults (appropriate to the supply and demand factor within the community);
  • Supporting parents who have shown the initiative and willingness to start a small business through Micro-Enterprise Development (MED) programs;
  • Working with eager entrepreneurs, especially women, to help them develop new business development skills, encourage self-sufficiency, and gather the collateral (insurance, for example) needed to grow their income and reinvest back into their small business.
