Hudson Egbert had prior knowledge of India’s customs and culture before he went to visit his sponsored children. He knew about the poverty that existed there as well as the discrimination that sometimes occurs between different classes.
That’s why this Kanata, Ontario man was touched when he visited the country in June 2010 and saw how Christian Children’s Fund of Canada was helping all children in need, regardless of their caste, religion, or level of poverty.
“CCFC and its partner are doing a great job of finding the right families who need help and designing programs to help the whole community,” he said. Hudson had been sponsoring a boy named Palpandi for five years when he received notice that the child’s program was graduating. He decided to visit the child himself for a final farewell and also to meet his new sponsored child, Ganesh.
CCFC staff took Hudson to Palpandi’s house where he met the child, his parents and sisters. Hudson was pleased to see the changes in Palpandi’s life and had the benefit of speaking to the family in their language.
“Palpandi’s living conditions are very good and the family’s basic needs are being met,” he said. Hudson was also able to see and learn about how sponsorship helps the entire community with the construction of toilets, environmental clubs, and school programs.
Hudson also met Ganesh and his family at CCFC’s office in India. He felt that the family was very connected with each other and were grateful for CCFC’s help because they came from a poor background. “I was very happy to see the kids and I hope to help more of them in this area,” he said. “Overall, I’m proud to be a part of CCFC’s work in helping these kids.”
