Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC) emphasises sustainability when providing assistance to communities in Africa and around the world. Once a community is healthy and prepared to be self sufficient, we move to other impoverished communities in need of development aid.
It is essential the communities we help be able to continue to thrive well into the future without further outside assistance. Too often, we find communities with abandoned equipment and projects because locals do not have the knowledge or skills to maintain or repair the infrastructure.
CCFC provides not only essential training so that locals can build and expand upon the infrastructure provided (such as clean water wells), but also the tools and skills necessary for communities to repair and rebuild these items without relying on additional international aid.
There is often a lot of labour available in the communities CCFC assists, as well as an eagerness to improve an individual’s community – whether it’s through developing better access to clean water or tackling health issues such as HIV/AIDS and malaria. CCFC provides the means necessary to help communities in Africa and other developing countries to shape their own future by providing training, equipment, hands on experience, learning aids, and the encouragement and skills to lobby their own government for additional support.
Experience has shown if a community invests in a project physically, emotionally, and economically, the project is more likely to be appreciated and valued for years to come. Making a donation to fund a self-sustainability program is the best way to ensure CCFC’s African sustainable development work is successful.
