Our Partner
Currently working with one partner in Tanzania, Chama Cha Wakina Mama Na Watoto (WAMATO), CCFC provides support to approximately 1,000 sponsored children and their families. WAMATO is a child-focused organization, and therefore a perfect match for CCFC! The program is actually situated in two different localities of Mbezi, and Msasani, within the precincts of Dar es Salaam. These two areas, which are very closely located to each other form the cluster of projects that are easily manageable.
WAMATO has a very dedicated Board of Directors and works with volunteers who support the organization. WAMATO also works to leverage resources by networking with other local and international organizations to secure additional financial, material and human resources in order to enhance the program impact in the communities that they serve.
CCFC's Markham Office plays an oversight role and assists the organization to build and strengthen their capacities by providing direction, guidance and advice. It also plays a role in monitoring the project activities and assisting the partner in evaluating the impact of their programs.

Self Sustainability
WAMATO works towards sustainability through the encouragement of community participation in programming. A Parents Committee has been formed and is highly involved in all decision making processes related to programming.
This year, WAMATO is planning to train community members on Children’s Rights and Child Protection. Also this year, WAMATO will be forming a Children’s Committee.
Micro-Enterprise Development
WAMATO runs a small Micro-Enterprise Development program. The program was launched in March 2006 and loans were provided, in conjunction with a Credit Cooperative Society to 300 community members, forming 20 groups last year. This program has enabled the female beneficiaries and other members of the community to improve not only their own socio-economic status, but that of the community as a whole. The program provides participants with training on how to run a small business in order to prepare them for receiving and properly utilizing the loan. WAMATO then supervises and monitors the administration of repayment of the loans.
Successes:
- 300 community members received training on running a small business.
Education
CCFC believes that education is the great equalizer. In Tanzania, educational support focuses on the provision of scholastic supplies, giving children the tools they need to attend and succeed in school. This includes the provision of uniforms, school supplies and the payment of school fees. WAMATO also provides teachers with the books that they need to teach effectively. We have recently built two classrooms at WAMATO.
Successes:
- School fees paid for 217 children.
- 697 children provided with exercise books, uniforms, shoes, socks and school supplies.
- 75 desks purchased.
- Build two classrooms
Water and Sanitation
The goal in Tanzania in this sector of development is to enable children and families to live in a cleaner environment, with safe water and effective sanitation facilities. To this end, water kiosks have been installed in the community and 1,000 families now have access to clean water and 6 pit latrines were constructed at the primary school site. Improved water and sanitation conditions mean improved health for children and community members. Cholera continues to be a problem in Tanzania and outbreaks are not uncommon.
Health and Nutrition
In Tanzania, the objective in this sector is to provide quality health services to members of the community and supply nutritional supplements to those in need. Nutritional supplements have been provided for 40 people living with HIV/AIDS and treatment for those with opportunistic infections. 500 children children received porridge and fruit during the school day. Children are monitored by a medical professional in order to identify those who are malnourished or severely malnourished. Those children are then treated through nutrition and supplements for a period of five months.
In the area of health, emphasis is place on awareness raising, which is accomplished by local partners, including: community leaders, the school committee, youth groups, district health authorities and other voluntary organizations. Subjects addressed through awareness raising activities and education include: basic health issues, communicable diseases, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, reproductive health and family planning. Ante and post-natal clinics are available for mothers of the community. Medications and immunizations are supplied for those in need.
Successes:
- All children under the age of five were immunized.
- Ante and post-natal clinics available for mothers of the community.
- 5.5 bags of 275 kgs of maize meal flour& 3 bags of 150 kgs of sugar, 1150 litres of milk purchased and distributed.
- Fruit provided to the children twice a week.
