Better Business Bureau "Guide For Giving" Shows Christian Children's Fund of Canada Among the Best

CCFC Logo

Better Business Bureau (BBB) recognizes the effectiveness and oversight of Christian Children's Fund of Canada’s (CCFC) programs, management, finances and governance.

In a newly released Guide for Giving, the Better Business Bureau has said Christian Children's Fund of Canada meets all of its Standards for Charitable Accountability including addressing public accountability, use of funds, solicitation and information materials, fundraising, and governance.

“We are always eager to participate in the Better Business Bureau’s evaluation of our effectiveness and accountability,” said Bruce Herzog, CEO CCFC. “We believe that by raising the standards for CCFC we can set an example for other charitable organizations to follow. Third party controls and accountability mechanisms are key ways we provide the transparency and integrity our generous supporters deserve.”

The Better Business Bureau noted CCFC met all standards for governance and oversight, measured effectiveness, finance and fundraising and informational materials. In addition, they noted that 88% of CCFC’s expenses were used for programs, notably higher than many of the other charities listed.

By adhering to the Better Business Bureau’s standards, as well as those of other third parties like Canada Revenue Agency, Imagine Canada and the Canadian Council for International Cooperation, CCFC continues to be endorsed as one of the most effective and accountable non-profit organizations in Canada. We guarantee our supporters that over 80% of their donation dollars will be used directly for program work around the world.

Among the Better Business Bureau’s standards CCFC met or exceeded include:

• A board of directors that provides adequate oversight of the charity’s operations and its staff.

• Have a board policy of assessing, no less than every two years, the organization’s performance, and effectives and of determining future actions required to achieve its mission.

• Make available to all, on request, complete annual financial statements prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

• Respond promptly to and act on complaints brought to its attention by the Better Business Bureau.

The BBB notes that its reports are provided for information only and intended to assist donors in exercising their own judgment of effective and accountable charitable organizations.
