Olegario is a very poor community in rural Paraguay. The community lacked basic resources such as potable water and adequate sanitation facilities. Water wells that were available in the community were extremely polluted and were almost dry.
The water was unsafe to drink and was affecting the livelihoods of people in the community. It was a limiting factor for the community’s sustainable development as it was having a negative impact on health and community productivity - particularly in children.
In 1999, the community of Olegario formed a water committee and successfully lobbied their municipal government to excavate a new well. Although this was a successful project, the well was unable to provide enough water for the whole community.
Last year, the community looked to Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) for support with the water and sanitation project. Working with the community, CCFC was able to finish the project so that the hundreds of residents living in Olegario had access to clean, fresh, drinkable water.
All this was made possible because of your generous donations. On behalf of the Olegario community, thank you.
