Sushmita Update

Sushmita

In August 2007, CCFC asked supporters for their help in caring for three year old Sushmita. We are happy to report that thousands of you responded with overwhelming generosity.

Nicknamed "the girl with a hole in her heart", Sushmita faced a difficult life unable to live normally as this birth defect was causing her health to deteriorate at a rapid rate.

In the past, expensive medical bills forced Sushmita’s father to sell most of his fertile farm land to help cover the cost. After learning more about Sushmita's story and the fact that she was denied essential surgery because of the cost, CCFC launched a major appeal to help Sushmita.

Through many generous donations from CCFC supporters, Sushmita received her much needed heart surgery. The outpouring of donations covered the cost of the surgery, a surgery her family never thought would happen.

CCFC is happy to report that Sushmita is now on the road to recovery. Her surgery was successful and the hole in Sushmita’s heart has been repaired. Sushmita was given approval to go home from the doctors and is recovering well, under the supervision of her family and Dr. Indu, Director of SPEECH, CCFC local partner in Kalimpong, India.

With every passing day Sushmita is eating and resting and regaining enough strength to be a healthy child. “Her life has been revived. She is doing so well. She is no longer exhausted or out of breath. Because of the compassion of Canadian supporters my daughter is well. CCFC has shown my family hope. Your generous donations have spared my daughters life and I will be forever grateful for the kindness you have shown my family,” said Sushmita’s father.

Through the helping hands of CCFC supporters, Sushmita can now build a lifetime of memories and live a normal life. Thank you for working through us to save this child's life.
