Musbeha |
Musbeha Beshir is an 18 year old CCFC sponsored child in Nazareth, Ethiopia. He enrolled in CCFC's child sponsorship program when he was nine years old. Musbaha’s mother died seven years ago. He doesn’t know where his father lives - he only remembers they were divorced when he was a child.
Part of a large family with two brothers and two sisters, Musbeha presently lives with his older brother, Nesro. His other brothers and sisters are scattered, and his contact with them is limited. Discouraged and saddened by his lack of family, Musbeha relies upon CCFC for support, both financial and emotional, and pushes himself to achieve excellence; trying to rebuild what he is determined will be a successful and happy life.
When he’s not in school, Musbeha is a petty trader. He started his business as a child, selling items like chewing gum, matches and other similar small objects as he wandered through town. Older and more experienced now, Musbeha has increased his business to include cloth, which he sells in nearby towns and at local markets. Regardless of how busy he is, or how much he needs the money to pay his monthly rent of 50 Birr (approximately $5 CDN), his first priority is always his education - he never wants to miss class.
His brother Nesro, describes Musbeha as “a very strong child, he does all his best to be a winner.” One of the adults in the CCFC Parents Committee in his community expressed her admiration for Musbeha, saying “He is unique in the village. He regularly attends school, and after classes he carries out his petty trade.”
When asked about his life, Musbeha became thoughtful and eventually said, “I didn’t know the help and support of my parents like other children, but I am lucky that I have a helper like my parents that is CCFC, who fulfill my different needs like medical fees, school materials, soap, shoes and clothing.”
Given access to just some basic necessities and a chance for an education, Musbeha has taken the first steps necessary to overcome his own, personal challenges, and be an example to other young people in his community.
