With the generous support of our donors Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC) has constructed 3 new classrooms in Zagyuri Ghana. The classrooms will accommodate over 200 nursery school children who were attending a makeshift classroom in the crowded local church.
During the commissioning ceremony, Ghana Country Director, Mrs. Santu Nantogma, stated that quality, accessible and affordable education is critical to achieving the millennium development goals by 2015. She also stated that CCFC was committed to providing children with the education they needed to become productive and useful citizens. She said it was with this belief that CCFC and its partners were working hard to provide Early Childhood Development Centers (ECD), improve educational infrastructure, build teachers' capacities and ensure that education is available and accessible to all.
Mrs. Nantogma appealed to parents, community leaders and educators to enroll children in school in an attempt to reduce child illiteracy, particularly among girls in the area.
The Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) Alhaji Haruna called on people to take their children's education seriously by ensuring that they are enrolled in schools. Stressing the importance of education, the MCE promised the government's commitment to quality, affordable and accessible education. He advised people to refrain from acts such as fighting that have the tendency to disrupt children's development.
