| Students from Mississauga Private School getting ready to run to raise funds for Ghana. |
Energetic students, ages 5 to 18 at Mississauga Private School, came together under sunny skies on Friday May 23rd to participate in its second annual walk-a-thon.
Last year, the students, their parents and staff collectively raised over $10,000 from its first walk-a-thon to purchase equipment and build a rain water harvesting tank through CCFC for the Bill Proctor Centre (an Early Childhood Development centre) located in Kutung, Ghana. The Centre is named in memory of the son of Mrs. Dianne Proctor, a CCFC supporter.
“Even the little kids really understood the need,” says Ivneet, student and Executive member of the Charitable Association of Mississauga Private School. “The idea of not having pencils and paper, far less a computer is incredible to them.”
Taking time out of their busy school day, the students attended opening event speeches made by student organizers and staff as well as Dorothy Tam, Director, Major & Planned Gifts, CCFC. And then they were off walking, running and even sprinting laps around the school property for almost two hours.
“Being able to walk for this cause really made us feel involved, we felt we were directly helping and impacting the final outcome,” says, Cassandra, student and Executive member.
This year the students of Mississauga Private School raised a handsome sum of $9,430. CCFC, the children we serve and the community of Kutung, Ghana are immensely grateful to them for their efforts, their willingness to get involved, and for being the difference in the lives of so many living in extreme poverty.
