Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC), would like to thank all the families that have generously supported CCFC's Gift Catalogue over the past year. With your donations, 2008 was a year to remember! We have been able to change the lives of so many children, families and communities, renewing their hope for a brighter future. Here are just a few of the gift catalogue success stories.
Paraguay: Hundreds of seed kits were given to children attending the Amigos de las Américas School. Tomatoes, carrots, marrow, lettuce, green pepper, parsley, cabbage, beetroot, onion, coriander, hybrid corn and melon seeds will provide children and their families with healthy, well-balanced and nutritious food, as well as an additional source of income. Over 575 kits - containing a total of 3.5 kilograms in seeds - were distributed, benefiting approximately 71 families in the community of Olegario.
Children of all ages need to play; it’s an essential part of being a child. As such, 20 soccer balls were given directly to children-in-need and six balls were donated to community centres, where a large number of children will benefit from having access to sporting equipment.
Three bicycles were distributed to children living in extreme need in Paraguay. These bicycles are a useful mean of transport, especially to get to school. In addition, the bikes provide the children with enjoyment and physical exercise.
Tanzania: In order for teachers to be able to teach properly - and for students to learn - basic classroom equipment and furniture is required. In Tanzania, two classrooms were provided with 40 desks, two teacher’s tables with chairs, two cupboards and two notice boards purchased from the gift catalogue. Approximately 120 school children and two classroom teachers will benefit from these essential supplies.
Ghana: “For Women Only” hygiene kits were provided to 425 young women, to help promote healthy personal hygiene practices among young women and girls in seven different communities. Kits include toothpaste, tooth brushes, cakes of soap, disinfectant, sanitary materials, shaving sticks, nail cutters, razor blades and a dish for bathing.
India: After the recent floods in India, two communities were in critical need of school supplies. Over 400 students will directly benefit from these supplies, with hundreds more benefiting indirectly. Through the gift catalogue, we were able to provide the following items:
