Commemorated yearly on 5 June, World Environment Day (WED) is one vehicle through which the Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC) stimulates community awareness of the environment and encourages action.

CCFC used the theme for WED 2009 "Your Planet Needs You-Unite to Combat Climate Change", as a jumping off point to encourage schools in CCFC operational areas to keep their environment clean. Ten schools in the Tamale area received CCFC donated items - shovels, rakes, wheel barrows, long brooms, watering cans and other items in an effort to keep their environment clean.

Ghana Communications Manager, Mr. Justin Bayor, urged listeners to take action and combat climatic change, no matter how small the effort may be. He expressed the hope that the equipment received would encourage the schools to clean up their surroundings in support of World Environment Day.
