Clean Water For Tuma Kavi

Sanitation In Pusuga

Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC) and partner organization, Tuma Kavi Development Association, have recently constructed four Rain Water Harvesting Tanks (RWHTs) for four schools in the Demong area of Northern Ghana.

During the commissioning of the tanks, Programme Manager of Tuma Kavi, Mr. John AbuMahama explained that the rain water harvesting tanks would provide clean water during perennial water shortages. Now, during the dry season, school children can stay in school and are no longer required to travel long distances for clean water. He said the water tanks will also improve rural education, health and sanitation and serve as drinking water for both the teachers and pupils.

Mr. AbuMahama also stated that through the support of CCFC, Tuma Kavi had:

  • de-wormed approximately 17,000 school children
  • donated school uniforms to about 120 needy school children in the area,
  • donated assorted medicines to various clinics in the district including the Saboba Health Centre and Demong Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound.
  • constructed 27 rain water harvesting tanks in nine districts in the region
  • six physically challenged and vulnerable women have been given skills training in catering services to improve their livelihoods.
