Children Want to Be In School

World Environment Day - Ghana

School children in the Northern Region of Ghana have pleaded with their parents to allow them to be in school rather than withdrawing them for farming activities, which draws back their development.

The children communicated this in Yendi through drama, to mark the International Day of the African Child.

Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC), and its local partners organized the programme. It was meant to let children talk to parents through drama, to encourage parents to rethink their attitude towards their child's education and to enrol them in formal schools.

Sanatu Nantogmah, Ghana Country Director for CCFC called on parents to invest heavily in their children's education to ensure that the children did not go wayward. She said CCFC was concerned about children's welfare no matter their religious backgrounds, and that CCFC would continue to assist children and other vulnerable groups in society.
