On Sept 12, NGOs IDEES/ACG and OCADES, two partners of Christian Children's Fund of Canada, delivered animals to children of Kikideni and Nayouri, villages of the Gourma Province, Burkina Faso.
One hundred and thirthy goats, 250 chickens, "dignity kits" for girls and 821 mosquito nets were also among the donations. This donation from CCFC and its partners (OCADES and IDEES/ACG) aims at helping families to be self-sufficient and develops an entrepreneurial spirit in children. "We try to minimize assistance because development is normally a participation process," explains Beatingar Digamnodji, Sponsorship Officer at IDEES. From this perspective, each child was given two animals (male and female). A training for sheep fattening will be following the NGOs' donation so that young beneficiaries can learn to care for their animals. "These gifts are symbolic. We want to assist in income generating activities. "The donated chickens and goats will be vaccinated and a veterinary will make follow up visits," explains Marie-Henriette Salembéré, Country Director for CCFC, who believes communities should get involved in their own development process.
