A charitable remainder trust is a great way to generate a tax receipt.
Unlike a future Bequest, for which a donor gets no immediate tax benefit, a charitable remainder trust provides the donor with a donation receipt the year he/she make his/her gift.
The donor may have assets such as cash, securities or real estate that one day he/she would like to donate to CCFC, but for the present the donor needs the income provided from the assets.
The donor can always leave these assets to CCFC in their will, but a charitable remainder trust is a great way to make that donation now.
The charitable remainder trust is a versatile tool that the donor can tailor to his/her own situation. Through a charitable remainder trust vehicle a donor can continue to receive the income from their gift for as long as he/she or his/her spouse live, or for a specific number of years.
Placing the assets in trust also frees the donor from management responsibility, removes the property from his/her estate and guarantees his/her privacy.
It is important to note that the donor will need to designate a qualified trustee who will administer it because the trust is irrevocable after it has been established.
