Christian Children's Fund of Canada would like to invite your Sunday School or Kids Club to participate in purchasing chickens for families around the world who are caught in the cycle of poverty. The children will learn a powerful lesson about sharing God’s love with other children in need. “I was hungry and you gave me food to eat.” Matthew 25:35.
When parents cannot even afford to give their child a basic meal each day, a chicken is like a miracle! A chicken has exponential – or eggsponential - impact! Each egg the chicken produces means renewed health for their child as $40 is enough to provide 5 chickens to a family. Each hen lays on average 259 eggs a year – that’s a lot of meals. It’s also a lot of potential income. Excess eggs can be sold at the market. The money earned helps parents support their families, giving them – perhaps for the first time in their lives – shoes, clean clothing, or a textbook so their child can go to school! Just a simple chicken, but it can make such a big difference.
Buying chickens for families living in poverty creates a future of hope for children and it is easy – and fun. It’s a great way to introduce kids to ways they can show God’s love to people around them who are in need. Just follow these easy steps!
Two Weeks Before: Show the PowerPoint or printout to your class to tell them about the project. Pass out the egg carton collection envelopes. Set a goal with the class… just $40 purchases 5 chickens!
One Week Before: Reminder
Easter Event: Have each group member complete and colour an activity sheet, memorize Matthew 25:35-36. You may wish to include a craft and/or snack in your Easter Event. Collect the envelopes from your class. Count the money raised and write one personal cheque or money order to send to Christian Children’s Fund of Canada. Parents may purchase chickens and request a tax receipt (for gifts of $10 or more) using the response slip.
Post Event: Post the completed activity sheets in your church to share your success with the rest of the congregation! We will send you and the children a thank you letter and certificate of appreciation.
Thank you for your consideration of this important and egg-citing project!
