Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) is pleased to announce it is now officially a signatory of the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and NGOs in Disaster Relief. CCFC is also now a member of both HAP International and People In Aid, two internationally recognized aid accountability and management oversight organizations. These are all memberships or designations vital to ensuring the increased effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of CCFC’s response during times of disaster and conflict.
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the world's largest humanitarian network, with a presence and activities in almost every country. The Movement incorporates the Geneva-based International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (the International Federation), as well as National Societies in 186 countries.
The Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP International) is the humanitarian sector's first international self-regulatory body. Members of HAP are committed to meeting the highest standards of accountability and quality management. The mission of HAP International is to make humanitarian action accountable to its intended beneficiaries through self-regulation, compliance verification, and quality assurance certification.
People In Aid improves organizational effectiveness within the humanitarian and development sector worldwide by advocating, supporting, and recognizing good practice in the management of people. They help organizations whose goal is the relief of poverty and suffering to enhance the impact they make through better management and support of staff and volunteers.
Although CCFC has been unofficially abiding by strict development regulations for many years, as an official member and/or signatory in these three organizations CCFC has now undertaken an official commitment to its donors and the humanitarian aid community to maintain essential standards of conduct in areas of crisis, and be accountable and responsible for all of its actions in these regions. In addition, these affiliations ensure CCFC will have the necessary credentials, qualifications, and reputation to compete on a national and international level for grants and other types of government funding.
“Not only is it important for CCFC to be committed to upholding the standards, quality, and accountability outlined by these humanitarian organizations, it’s essential we be held officially responsible for ensuring these standards are followed by our staff and partners directly working with families and children in crisis,” says Mark Lukowski, CEO, CCFC.
