Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC) today announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer, Mark Lukowski, to lead in the development of new solutions to help eradicate extreme child poverty around the world— poverty so severe that many children die before their fifth birthday, too poor to meet basic needs for food, water, shelter or medical care.

“With today’s global recession, increasing poverty and growing environmental challenges, the world’s children need us now more than ever. Mark brings a fresh perspective to our sector with twenty years of executive leadership and experience in implementing strategic programs across a number of industries,” said Paul Newbigging, President and Chair of the Board, CCFC.  “This will position CCFC to reach a new level of meaningful, measurable results for the children we serve.”

With international development organizations being called on to address more complex challenges in the coming years --from international resource shortages, pandemic disease, and civil unrest— new solutions are required. Lukowski’s proven expertise in strategic planning, operations, leveraging partnerships, process improvement, as well as managing global organizations, will enable CCFC to respond to increasing poverty and international emergencies.

“Having traveled to six continents, child poverty has always been a great concern for me. I look forward to establishing CCFC as a leader in international development and the charitable sector—from the help we provide to the world’s poorest children to the high level of accountability we provide to our supporters,” said Lukowski.

Lukowski added he believes new solutions to extreme poverty can be found by building the capacity of developing economies to enter and compete in the global economy; pursuing closer sectoral collaboration to develop and deploy solutions; and by creating the flexibility and responsiveness non-governmental organizations need to adapt to increasing demands.

Bringing with him a corporate background of innovation and process improvements at industry giants Motorola Cellular and Hewlett-Packard, coupled with a lifelong passion for important charitable causes such as United Way, Junior Achievement, and Big Brothers Big Sisters; Lukowski’s track record of increasing revenue and reducing operating costs will contribute to a new era of growth for CCFC’s child focused programs.

“It is possible to break the cycle of extreme poverty for the world’s children. I look forward to working with others in our sector and our partners around the world to identify best practices, new approaches, and more areas where we can work together to help more children,” Lukowski added.
